Gilmore Girls Online Reference Source

TV with a Heart and a Brain. Dorothy Would Be So Proud.

Introduction

There are many websites devoted to the WB/CW television show "Gilmore Girls" online these days. Most of them offer the same material over and over again: episode guides, cast biographies, etc. I wanted to make a site that offers something new, original and useful, as well as something with a purpose. I eventually hit on the idea of creating a reference source which chronicles all of the references made on this lovely show. If you're a fan, then you are aware of the constant volley of pop culture references, allusions, and other intelligent comments made each week on the show. "Gilmore Girls" is truly a case of pop culture and literacy working together to create a show this is highly entertaining and full of cool information all at once. This site catalogs all of these references--from those made in the very episode titles, to all the books, music, and movies/TV mentioned or seen on the show. This should not only been fun to peruse for the fan, but also an interesting study of the ways that a television show can be intelligent and educated in today's world. "Gilmore Girls" has a heart, which amazing characters and plots, but it also has a brain. What other show on air can reference Agent Orange, the Brady Bunch and Gogol all in one episode? This site will also include a video which is a short study of the relationship between music and television on a variety of shows, and how this compares to the relationship between music and literature.

Though I have always admired "Gilmore Girls" for its ability to reference hundreds of thing per season, and this admiration got me thinking about other shows on television and the relationship THEY have with music and literature. I interviewed a few people around my college campus to find out what they have noticed about the shows they watch on a regular basis and their relationship with music and literature. I interviewed Aleshia Price, Jenny Nesbitt and Lexi Habicht, to whom I am forever grateful.
