Some progressive economics students from Korea are organizing an online
petition against the proposed Korea-US Free Trade Agreement.
I talked to one of these students on Friday and in response was sent a
number of documents. I am not sending the attachments which only
concern economics students but am passing along other *attachments*
of more general interest.
These include the following:
o United Nations _Latest Developments in Investor-State Dispute Settlement_
(ILA Monitor #4, 2006)
o "NAFTA Chapter 11 Investor-to-state Cases: Bankrupting Democracy" (sub-titled:
"Lessons for Fast Track and the Free Trade Area of the Americas")
o "Testimony of Lori Wallach Regarding the WTO Dispute Settlement System:
Powerful Enforcement of Unbalanced, Extensive Regulations Without Basic Due
Process Protections"
o Lance Taylor and Rudiger von Arnim, "Projected Benefits of the DOHA Round
Hinge on Misleading Trade Models" (March, 07)
I will send the materials which concern the student petition to listmembers who ask.
The student told me that if there is a petition for economists and academics I would be
sent that.
*What is the view of our Korean members on the proposed agreement?*
In solidarity, Jerry
