The 2008 SNA revision provides a description of how the financial sector is
defined, for statistical purposes, in section E, p. 77
http://unstats.un.org/unsd/sna1993/draftingphase/WC-SNAvolume1.pdf It
represents a further "Americanisation" of the national accounting system.
The problem with the Marxist discussion is, that most of these people do not
even know what the financial sector is, and in the process of trying to find
their analogies between Marx and the official categories, Marx goes out the
window, and the official categories are uncritically adopted to clinch the
argument. At the most basic level, there is a problem with the accounting
information insofar as the institutional sectorisation of resident
enterprise units does not tell you at all "who owns/controls whom".
