I. OVERALL, there have been *96* subscribers to OPE-L since we started in September, 1995. * There are now *81* subscribers. * There are *15* former subscribers. A complete listing of all current and former subscribers appears at the end of this message. If you want a listing of e-mail addresses of current subscribers, send a message to listproc@galaxy.csuchico.edu which reads (only): RECIPIENTS OPE-L II. DIVERSITY BY CONTINENT AND NATION The following is the break-down for current subscribers: A. ASIA - China 1 - Japan 4 - India 2 - South Korea 4 Sub-total: 11 B. AUSTRALIA + - Australia 3 - New Zealand 2 Sub-total: 5 C. SOUTH AND CENTRAL AMERICA - Belize 1 - Brazil 7 - Mexico 3 Sub-total 11 D. NORTH AMERICA - Canada 3 - USA 24 Sub-total: 27 E. DIVERSITY BY GENDER For current members: Male Members: 72 Women Members: 9 For former members: Male Members: 13 Women Members: 2 IV. DIVERSITY BY OCCUPATION I believe the following is the break-down for current subscribers -- Of a total of 81: -- 68 are *economists*. Of this #, the overwhelming amount are academics. 4 of this # are graduate students; 2 are independent economists; 1 works for a central bank. Of the remaining 13, -- 7 are *academics* who teach in *other fields*. This includes: accounting, cultural studies, law, philosophy (2), political science, sociology (2). The remaining 6 (of the 13 above) include writers (2), self-employed, unknown (3). V. OTHER MEASURES OF DIVERSITY I am not including a break-down in terms of a) schools of thought; or b) areas of interest and expertise. I think that such a tabulation would be very problematic. Yet, certain general points can be made: 1) we have a *very* diverse list in terms of different Marxist perspectives on political economy. Most, but not all, major perspectives internationally are represented. 2) I believe it can be said that we are *less diverse* in terms of areas of interest and fields of specialization than 1). The interest of a large percentage of listmembers seems to be topics related to value theory. ------------------------ IN CONCLUSION, we remain a VERY DIVERSE list -- as expressed in a variety of measures used above. YET, it can no really be said that we are a "SMALL" list. In the future, we will need to (continue to) give consideration to INCREASING THE DIVERSITY of the list while EXTENDING THE RANGE of our discussions and INCREASING PARTICIPATION RATES by listmembers. In solidarity, Jerry PS on Participation Rates: -- of the 81 current subscribers, 73 have participated in list discussions. -- including former subscribers, 86 of 96 subscribers have participated in list discussions. ---------------------------------------------- * OUTLINE ON POLITICAL ECONOMY * (OPE-L) 1995-2001 Current subscribers: -------------------- Mariko Adachi (Japan) Michio Akama (Japan) Samir Amin (Senegal) Charles Andrews (US) Chris Arthur (UK) Alejandro Valle Baeza (Mexico) Riccardo Bellofiore (Italy) Rakesh Bhandari (US) Andrew Brown (UK) Paul Bullock (UK) Paul Burkett (US) Antonio Callari (US) Martha Campbell (US) Reinaldo Carcanholo (Brazil) Francisco Paolo Cipolla (Brazil) Bill Cochrane (New Zealand) Paul Cockshott (UK) Allin Cottrell (US) Stephen Cullenberg (US) Massimo DeAngelis (UK) Suzanne de Brunhoff (France) Maria de Lourdes Mollo (Brazil) Zhiyong Dong (P.R.
