For political and theoretical reasons, John Strachey's summary and critique of what he calls "the Hobson-Lenin explanation" of the necessity of imperialism in The End of Empire (Praeger, 1959) seems quite important. rb I don't know much about Strachey but what's rather surprising in this book is that he seems to make no reference to V/C and the falling rate of profit which were at the heart of The Nature of Capitalist Crisis. Maybe his abandonment of the core of the previous book is explained in Contemporary Capitalism? rb
