Dear Paul B., Paul C. and Jerry; Thanks for the reports on the anti-War demonstrations in London, Glasgow and New York. They are encouraging and impressive. Here in Japan, we are collaborating to gather signs and fund to publish an advertisement appeal as follows on a leading newspaper Asahi among others soon probably on 27th February. All the best, Makoto AN APPEAL FROM CONCERNED SOCIAL SCIENTISTS IN JAPAN AGAINST US ATTACK ON IRAQ AND AGAINST JAPAN'S SUPPORT OF THE WAR The United States is preparing to invade Iraq. (1) If the people of the world cannot stop this attack, internationalorder will decay into a state of lawlessness, where power dominates reason. (2) Military action by the US and her allies will bring tragic deathsand injuries, famine, and environmental disaster to Iraq. SuchAmerican-led violence will only intensify hatred and inspire terror allover the world. (3) Most Japanese people wish for a peaceful solution to this conflict. As social scientists in Japan, we strongly urge the Government torespect the wishes of the Japanese people by not supporting militaryaction in Iraq by the US and her allies.
