I must be missing the point of this debate. The idea of the means of
production representing congealed labor only clarifies that the
concept of labor quantity is a composite one in the sense that it is
incorporative of both what is normally referred to as labor as also
of what is normally referred to as capital or man-man means of
further production. That is, Marx, like Ricardo, conceives of the
quantity of labor as a composite element, the components being (see
Riju Mishra The Development of David Ricardo's Theory of Value)
(a)the quantity of immediate/direct labor and (b)the past/stored up,
indirect labor (see Principles, chapter 4).   Do note that this does
not imply (as Steve  once claimed here) that fixed and circulating
capital can be reduced without remainder to labor.
