In the US, UK, and France there was much less destruction of productive capital. In the US there has been no significant military damage since the Civil War. Since the US accounts for the greater part of world Military expenditure, the main effect of this has to be seen in terms of the boost to economic activity that it has produced in the USA for the last 60 years. ========================================= Paul C, Yes, that's a good point. But, the boost to economic activity in the US has to also be put in an international context vis-a-vis the transfer of surplus value and wealth internationally. If, as Rakesh claims, it is the destruction of constant capital that war makes possible which increases anticipated profitability then it would be in the interests of the US capitalist class and state to bomb its _own_ factories in the US (and thereby forcibly destroy "higher cost or morally depreciated capital equipment" in the US), would it not? In solidarity, Jerry
