Already in 1976 Siegbert Salomon Prawer had covered this theme in his "Karl Marx and World Literature" (Oxford UP). I'm not sure that Wheen's pomo portrait remaking Marx into a sort of delightfully eccentric English gentleman will stand the test of time. Still, focusing on Marx as human being interested in the arts as much as the sciences is a refreshing alternative to boorish Marxist religions. J.
