[OPE-L] Minimum wage

There's hardly a better argument for an independent American workers' party
than the defeat in the Senate of proposals to raise the US minimum wage from
$5.15 per hour (€ 3.99 ) to $7.25 (€ 5.62) per hour. (In the Netherlands,
the minimum wage for workers aged 23+ is € 7.68 per hour, or $9.89).

Corrected for inflation, the US minimum wage is now at its lowest since the
1950s. In the US, about 15 million people (or about one out of nine who are
employed) get $7.25 or less per hour.

The proposal was defeated, because the GOPs wanted no estate tax on personal
fortunes of less than $5 million, as a tradeoff, and the Dems rejected that
idea.
