PS. "My us granny" was a mistype -- it should have been simply "My granny".
The reason for quoting her was that Marx's point in using the now obsolete
expression "cookshop" (my granny was born in 1890) seems to have been that
it was the original fast-food service, unlike restaurants where food was
cooked to order. I suppose Marx is saying you can't get communism
precooked -- to use another metaphor, ready to wear rather than
custom-made. -- James
