> So where to now with the "deindustrialisation" thesis? Hi Jurriaan: The deindustrialization thesis never asserted that all advanced capitalist nations or regions will experience deindustrialization. The UNIDO statistics show a decline in the average annual real growth of MVA in the period 1998 -- 2003 (compared to 1993 -- 1998) for: * the developed market economies (down to 1.7% from 3.0%) * developing regions (down to 5.5 from 6.2%); * sub-Sahara Africa (down to 3.0 from 4.2%); * Latin America and Caribbean (down to 0.7 from 2.7%); * West Asia and Europe (down to 3.3 from 5.7%) (see UDIDO page to see which countries are included in each category) * and even China (down to 7.9% from 9.6%). For the world as a whole, there was a decline from 3.5% to 2.7%. In solidarity, Jerry
