"This is why I emphasise the central role of the communication and persistence of information." Paul, I doubt whether you have an adaquate concept of communication and information. You seem to define these concepts in the tradition of pure socilogist scholars like Mead and Habermas. But scholars of materialist culture theory, Raymond Williams, for example, define the means of production also as means of communication. They are therefore also storage of information. Because of this in Capital, Marx suggests distinguishing historical epoches not on the basis of what has been produced but on the basis of how has been produced. After all I find your approach very eclectic. Like Smith and Marx I am a dialectician. This seems to be the reason why we do not come to a conclusion. Socialist greetings Dogan
