True to form, Louis N. Proyect has responded with rationalizations and excuses for his (mis-) characterizations. Knowing (now, he claims) that John is Irish he writes that he assumed that he was British. Talk about adding insult to insult & injury! To be fair to Louis, he might _not_ have known that John was Irish. After all, he might _not_ have looked _at all_ into John's background before issuing his polemics against him. And, he might _not_ have read _any_ of the many articles on John that referred to his Irish background - before launching his verbal attack on him. And, of course, he might _not_ have read a post that _he replied to_ which mentioned how he is a "Irish radical scholar": <http://archives.econ.utah.edu/archives/marxism/2005w13/msg00321.htm> And, of course, he has _no_ knowledge the history of how the Irish in Britain and the US have been referred to as "dogs". And, of course, Proyect doesn't explain his choice of a picture of John is his blog. John was amused yesterday by Proyect's dog story. I was not amused but neither was I surprised. You can't teach an Unrepentant Marxist new tricks. In solidarity, Jerry Subject: [Marxism] John Holloway From: Louis Proyect <lnp3@panix.com> Date: Fri, 18 May 2007 09:33:59 -0400 Somebody who lurks on PEN-L has accused me of anti-Irish bigotry on a closed list geared to academics. After I picked myself off the floor from a laughing fit, I felt it was necessary to say something because a number of Marxmailers and PEN-L'ers are on that closed list geared to academics. To get right to the point, I referred to Holloway in my post as a "British professor". In other words, I was under the assumption that he was British, not Irish. I must add that I came to that conclusion because of the preciousness of his prose which Michael Lebowitz has described as a fart. Another "proof" of my racism is that I told a joke about Sherry, my mom's Irish Setter. This had to be reference to Holloway's ethnicity in the eyes of our amateur sleuth and two-bit moralist. Holloway has told this closed list geared to academics that he is "amused" by my reference to Sherry. I suppose that I should be flattered that he deigned to acknowledge my joke. In the past, when I tried to have a debate with him on the autonomist mailing list, he stood aloof and pretended that I did not exist. I can't blame him because his ideas are somewhat worse than described by Michael Lebowitz. They are not just a fart, but an accident in your pants that sometimes happens when you mean to pass wind but go too far. -- www.marxmail.org
