Alejandro A: I don't think the Engels quote should be startling to Marxists, but it may appear so to some who downplay the role of competition for the operation of capitalism. The cause for the confusion by those Marxists may have to do with assuming that the subjects introduced (in terms of the order of presentation) at a higher level of abstraction are somehow more necessary and essential than categories necessary for a understanding of the subject matter at a more concrete level. Or, its genesis could be a tied to the acceptance by some of theories of "state capitalism", which likewize downplay the role of competition. In solidarity, Jerry >
