Recently I spotted some evidence in favour of Michael Heinrich's view:

A new poll of 20 countries from around the world finds a striking global consensus that the free market economic system is best, but that governments should also do more to regulate large companies. In all but one country polled, a majority or plurality agreed with the statement that "the free enterprise system and free market economy is the best system on which to base the future of the world." On average, 61% agreed while 28% disagreed. The poll of 20,791 individuals was conducted by the international polling firm GlobeScan and analyzed in conjunction with the Program on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA) of the University of Maryland. http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/articles/btglobalizationtradera/154.php?nid=&id=&pnt=154Received: from f4n3.wfunet.wfu.edu (f4n3.wfunet.wfu.edu [10.2.1.2]) by burnsville.wfunet.wfu.edu (8.13.8/8.13.8) with SMTP id l7BF8fWJ001121 for <cottrell@ricardo.ecn.wfu.edu>; Sat, 11 Aug 2007 11:08:41 -0400 (envelope-from owner-ope-l@SUS.CSUCHICO.EDU)

Of course, as discussed, public opinion about the state of the world and the future of the world can change, sometimes very rapidly, in response to new events.

Similar to Heinrich, James Heartfield writes:

realistically, one has to look at the reception of [Henryk] Grossman's work in the changed circumstances of the 1990s. Following the defeats of the workers' movement in the 1980s, and the internal collapse of the Stalinist regimes in the USSR and China, capitalism has enjoyed a marked stabilisation and expansion. Millions more workers have been recruited to create new surplus value for capitalism, in China, Eastern Europe and Russia, as well as with the expansion of the workforce through the recruitment of women workers and migrant labour in America and Western Europe. http://www.spiked-online.com/index.php?/site/reviewofbooks_article/3632

This is a popular Marxist analysis, but very superficial - in reality, it defies fact and logic. Of course, in a pomo universe there is always some sense in which a viewpoint is valid.
