But just following the thoughts Howard put forward I think any major decission such as suspension should be made by the list rather than by an individual person or AC. In fact the point might well be generalized. Independent of what or who the issue concerns, it might very well be a good idea that the person in the position of holding the list together -- as you do -- specifically not participate in matters of discipline concerning violations of list decorum. You might find that others could insist much more rigorously and consistently on conduct appropriate to the nature of our exchange. Let me add that I make no fetish of legality here – I have no doubt it would be preferable to think in terms of a lively policy of criticism self-criticism all round. But it seems clear the limited nature of our collaboration does not lend itself to the cohesion required for that.
