The Italian authorities have closed down a government website showing millions of its citizens' tax declarations, after a storm of protests. As part of a crackdown on tax evasion, the outgoing centre-left government made public every citizen's declared taxable income on the state's tax website on Wednesday. After just a few hours, the Italian treasury suspended the website after it received a formal complaint from Italy's privacy watchdog. In the short time the website was available it was overrun by Italians curious to know how much other people were earning. http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/3D7F7C46-D8F4-4F8C-9264-213CDC353517.htm _______________________________________________ ope mailing list ope@lists.csuchico.edu https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/ope
