A thought I have is, that by the time one in nine Americans is unemployed for a longer time, and US public & charitable services start collapsing because there is no money, the Cubans and Venezuelans are going to feel a lot better about their socialist system, warts and all.
It's just that when American society starts to fray and even disintegrate, their government normally starts new military wars somewhere, and a lot more people get killed. Near-zero economic growth or negative growth with fifty million extra unemployed increases the likelihood of civil wars, and civil wars in turn increase the likelihood of new imperialist military interventions.
