Book launch and talks in early April...

Following a delightful book launch last Tuesday at the Waterstone's Economists' Bookshop at the London School of Economics (LSE), next week I will be hitting the road to speak about Che Guevara's contribution to the Cuban Revolution and the economics of revolution at events in Liverpool and Newcastle before returning to London and all in just over one week. Details of these events are copied below. First though, some photos of Meghnad Desai and Colin Lewis - both my PhD supervisors at LSE - speaking at the book launch there in front of a very mixed and enthusiastic crowd. Almost all the books were sold!

Che Guevara: The Economics of Revolution

Rock Around the Blockade present a talk by author Helen Yaffe on her book

Bolivar Hall, Venezuelan Emassy 54 Grafton Way, London W1T 5DL (nearest tubes Warren Street and Goodge Street) 7.30-9pm Based on new archival research and interviews with his contemporaries and colleagues, this book records Guevara’s contribution to industrial organisation, economic management and socialist political economy debates as a member of the Cuban government. Guevara created the Budgetary Finance System, an economic management system unique to socialism.

It was consistent with his Marxist analysis and included policies to promote education and training, establish administrative controls, forge workers’ participation in management, found science and technology institutes and raise consciousness whilst institutionalising psychology as a management tool.

I'm really looking forward to the talk in Newcastle next week. I've started reading the book and it's fascinating - it will be great to have the opportunity to ask Helen questions about her methodology.
