[President Obama said] 'The idea that we cannot find a place to securely
house 250-plus detainees within the United States is not rational.'" (...)
Speaking at the National Archives, which houses the Constitution and other
documents embodying America's system of government and justice, the
president promised to work with Congress to develop a safe and fair system
for dealing with those Guantánamo detainees who cannot be prosecuted "yet
who pose a clear danger to the American people."

Meanwhile, in a gung-ho speech at the AEI, Dick Cheney railed against the
Left: "Over on the left wing of the President's party, there appears to be
little curiosity in finding out what can be learned from the terrorists. The
kind of answers they're after would be heard before a so-called "Truth
Commission". Some are even demanding that those who recommended and approved
the interrogations be prosecuted, in effect treating political disagreements
as a punishable offense, and political opponents are criminals"

This is ridiculous, because it is not as though the CIA is going to
broadcast truthfully (i.e. the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the
truth) what it learns from torturing terrorists. The point is that the Bush
administration repeatedly lied to the world, and it told brazen lies, to
justify its illegal military invasions aiming to bolster American power in
the Middle East. The truth about 9/11 has yet to be told. If the collosal
sums of money being thrown at futile wars had been spent wisely on policies
based on scientific evidence, there would be no financial crisis today, and
millions of deaths would have been prevented.
