Well I haven't seen pigs fly yet myself, but anyway from a technological or
military viewpoint, it seems to me the American bases in Japan and Korea are
convenient, but not necessary, since you can fly bombers or missiles from
any number of movable or fixed sites around the Pacific these days, and any
abandoned airbase could probably be quickly retaken in most cases.
I certainly hope that the occupation forces will be withdrawn, since it is
an obstacle in closer relations between the North and the South, and really
South Korea can defend itself quite well.
Why don't we get more input of Asian scholars on OPE-L? It would be valuable
to have more news from your part of the world and the discussions taking
place.
