[OPE] intermission: value of knowledge

I must say that I find recent contributions to this thread increasingly
bizarre, and I feel saddened and ashamed that knowledgeable scholars who
have benefited from so much education can utter such tripe. What on earth is
the relevance of such abstract comments, in abstraction from any serious
investigation of the markets for knowledge? Wouldn't it better to start of
first by inventorizing the ways in which intellectual property is actually
sold, and what sort of property rights pertain to it? I don't think we will
get very far if we confuse knowledge with information.
