Well, in one sense, Christmas can't be separated from its religious
meaning. That's impossible. Yet, in another sense, capitalism itself
has accomplished the impossible: it caused a re-birth of Christmas
as a commercial holiday - an opportunity to produce and exchange
commodities. This is more apparent in some capitalist
social formations (especially the US) than others.
