For the period of time in question, Russia was more advanced relative to the
most advanced capitalist economies than is India today. It's true that the
Bolsheviks often talked about the "backwardness" of the USSR but Russia was
a colonial power under the Czars and industrialization had already begun in
the early part of the 19th Century (see the writings of the historian,
William L. Blackwell). India and Russia have quite distinct histories and
the comparison you are asserting is problematic in the extreme.
