Maybe so; but then does he mean by 'purely social'? As opposed to 'purely
natural', for example? 'By arbitrary convention'? Or what?

Individual human producers don't exist outside society. But, remember,
Jurriaan, your original point was that "for Marx and Engels, what has
'value' is the products of social labor". I hope you'll agree this can't be
right - many products of social labor (when defined as above) don't have
value.
