That is a very good argument.
I and co authors have debated this and last time came down narrowly in favour of going via a publisher.
It is not clear that we were right. It may have been better to have put the book on the web under a gnu license as Allin and I have done with Towards a New Socialism and only allow publishers to print it if they do not ask for exclusive copyright.
Against this, existing publishers have a distribution network which can be useful, but I am not sure that in the age of the Internet whether this counts for as much as it once did.

If you are all so ‘shocked’ at publishers prices why not simply publish free online? You undermine your own position by signing contracts then complaining about the result.

The Palgrave books concerned are

The Constitution of Capital: Essays on Volume 1 of Capital eds. Bellofiore and Taylor
The Circulation of Capital: Essays on Volume 2 of Capital eds Arthur and Reuten
The Culmination of Capital: Essays on Volume 3 of Capital eds Campbell and Reuten

As people say we authors do not get any say. But it would be good for Libraries to get this set, for potential readers to put pressure on publishers to keep them in print and secure a paperback.
