[OPE] Israel's rapist president convicted

Katsav did get convicted in the end for two counts of raping an employee
while he was a Cabinet minister in the late 1990s (he was elected as
president after the rapes, in July 2000). He was also convicted of sexual
misconduct involving two other women who worked for him when he was
president from 2000 to 2007. There was almost nothing about it in the
pro-Israel Western media though. The rightwing Jerusalem Post ran an article
which suggested that the evidential basis for the conviction was rather

Ha'aretz reported on the other hand that the judges ruled Katsav's testimony
was "riddled with lies".
