Paul, the point of the review wasn’t to look at Shannon’s theory (there are plenty of books and articles that do that, including, at a popular level, Gleick’s own book). It was a larger point about the reasons why this theory has been able to colonize areas of thought well beyond its initially narrow field of application.

It strikes me as superficial in the extreme.
It gets nowhere near examining the content of Shannon’s theory or why it is related to physics and the laws of thermodynamics.

FYI, review of James Gleick’s The Information: A History, A Theory, A Flood.
