Since mid-January we have basically been discussing;
a) valuation of constant capital and moral depreciation;
b) the "transformation problem" and the TSS interpretation of Marx;
c) the assumption of price-value equivalence and Ch. 5, VI
I believe that all world agree that our discussions on these topics have
been excellent. Arguably, we have had the most extended and extensive
discussions on these topics *ever*.
I'd like to see us, though, move on to the discussion of other subjects.
In suggesting this, I am *not* discouraging people from writing
additional posts on the above *nor* am I saying that discussion on the
above topics is "closed" or "settled."
I am saying that it's a good time for a breather. It's a good time to
raise other issues.
If you accept the above, then the question is: what topic or topics do we
want to discuss next?
Some possibilities include:
* monetary theory, gold, and credit-money (this would be an expansion of
the "Money, Ricardo, Marx" thread);
* discussion of individual and social values (suggested by John);
* discussion of absolute and relative surplus value (and, possibly,
productivity as well -- something that there was an exchange on PEN-L
about recently);
* productive and unproductive labor (suggested by Alan);
* value theory and empirical work (a theme that has come up repeatedly,
but has never been directly addressed);
* Steve K's interpretation of surplus value and his promised "cards on
the table" (although, this may have to wait for about a month, it
appears);
* value and socialism (suggested by Allin);
* alternative methodologies and conceptions related to understanding the
expression "extending Marx".
* What else ????
Of course, "cards on the table" posts are always welcomed as well.
SO, I AM ASKING YOU NOW TO SAY WHAT YOU WANT US TO DISCUSS NEXT.
It would be desirable, if listmembers could say why that want to discuss
a particular issue and pose subjects for discussion in such a way that we
have an understanding of what in particular you want to discuss.
In OPE-L Solidarity,
Jerry
