Just a quick comment on this--- since Jerry gave me as an example of
someone not doing mathematical work. I agree with opinions advanced by
others. The problem is not with math as such but rather with whether
particular techniques for enquiry are allowed to determine the appropriate
objects of enquiry. (Hey, I used it *myself*--- neatly exiled to an
appendix--- in my "Marx's Falling Rate of Profit: A Dialectical View",
thereby revealing the compatibility of dialectics and calculus-- something
Marx knew well-- 20 years ago.) Since we all would reject such fetishisation
of formal techniques and prefer rigour to its absence, I'm not certain how
much disagreement (in principle--- as opposed to practice) there is among
us.
