It might have been more appropriate to send this only to the 'sub-
committee' working on archival matters, but I've mislaid that list.
Anyway, I have found out that the Hypermail program is available free,
and seems to compile easily. I've put up a little example of what it
can do on the following Web page
http://www.wfu.edu/~cottrell/hypermail/
Note that there is no link to this page on any other page at Wake Forest,
and this is the only notification of its existence going out, so it
should be confidential. I can delete it in a few days once people have
had a chance to take a look and see what they think.
To construct the example I downloaded just one day's archive (960310) and
ran hypermail on it: total labour-time, approx 5 mins (plus another 30
mins or so to download and compile the hypermail source code).
