TOP 10 FAQ

Q1: I cannot subscribe to the list I want. Why?
A: Make sure you have the correct list name. e.g.

OPE-L

[Note: Since we are a closed list, new subscription requests have
to be approved by the list "owner" -- JL]

The correct syntax for subscribing is

SUBSCRIBE OPE-L FIRSTNAME LASTNAME

Q2: How do I unsubscribe from a list?
A: Do you really want to do this? [NO! For a temporary absence or
vacation, set your mail to postpone instead. -- JL]
Send the Unsubscribe request to Listproc. Make sure you have the
correct spelling.

UNSUBSCRIBE OPE-L

Q3: What is the difference between Request & Posting?
A: Postings go to the list. Requests go to Listproc.
You can send postings to the list address and the message will be
distributed through the list to all the subscribers. While Subscribe
and Unsubscribe are Listproc requests and should be sent to Listproc's
address. If you send a regular posting to Listproc, Listproc will
"tell" you that's an "invalid request".

Q4: When I change my email address, what should I do?
A: Before you close your old account, use the old
account address to unsubscribe from a list. If you don't have access to
the old email address anymore, you must contact the list owner to
unsubscribe you. [Except I don't have the ability to do this. -- JL].

Q5: How do I get help?
A: Send an email to Listproc with the HELP request

HELP

If you keep getting INVALID REQUEST message, it's time to check the
syntax of your request. The information you'll get from HELP request is
very helpful.

Q6: What is Listproc's email address?
A: LISTPROC@ANTHRAX.ECST.CSUCHICO.EDU

Q7: How do I know who are subscribed to the list?
A: Send the RECIPIENTS request to Listproc.

RECIPIENTS OPE-L

Since OPE-L is a closed list, you have to be a
approved subscriber to request recipients information.

Q8: How do I postpone postings sent from the list?
A: Send request to Listproc to postpone postings.

SET OPE-L MAIL POSTPONE

If you are going to be away and not able to check your email, you can
temporarily postpone your email from the list. Any posting during this
time will not be delivered to you. To resume delivering, send the
following request to Listproc.

SET OPE-L MAIL ACK

Q9: What lists are on anthrax server?
A: Just send a Lists request to Listproc.

LISTS

Q10: Is there any Listproc archive on anthrax?
A: All the postings are archived daily.
Archives older than 4 weeks will be removed. To request an archive
index, send Index request to Listproc.

GET OPE-L 960326
