Embarassment is increased ten times by the considerate
debate created by an intemperate post. I seem to have split
the representatives of the Italian nation into two camps,
driven Jerry and Gil into spasms of self-doubt about
communicating in English, and launched a completely new
debate about the French edition of Capital, all with one post.
Seriously guys I was just sounding off.

My penance is to enter Jerry's quiz. Treating it as a detective
story I put forward this reasoning.

(1) the person talks about numeraires. Who first invented this
idea? There's a question, and that would be an interesting thing
to know. My guess is that Sraffa first put it into the public domain
but it could have been Pasinetti. I don't think it was any of the
earlier guys like Seton or Winternitz.

(2) the person talks about Morishima which puts it, I think, into
the late 70s or early 80s.

(3) the language sounds suspiciously like my friend Paolo but it
would spoil it if I went searching for it.

So I am going to plump for Paolo Giussani because it fits the
three criteria I could come up with and nothing rules it out.

By the way he is trying to get onto E-Mail with a little
help from his friends, and he has his own perspective on
everything we have been talking about. So I hope we hear
from him soon.
