A reply to Paul C's ope-l 2120

As long as one DOES NOT ask--and forthrightly answer--whether the
views that have been attributed to someone accurately reflect what
s/he thought, said, and wrote, one is allowing the historical
record to be falsified. One is "using" someone else for one's
own purposes, however well-intentioned and noble, but making it
all the more difficult for others to discover and clarify what that
person had to say.

Our century has been characterised by too much rewriting of history,
in the name of science, in the name of rationalism, in the name
of ....

Let the facts be known!
