My wife (Susan Feiner---sffein@usm.maine.edu) has a "history of thought"
question that maybe some of you can answer: who introduced the term "homo
economicus" into the jargon of economics? When and how did this
(obnoxious) term originate? To me, it seems to have a late Victorian,
turn-of-the-century flavor, but I have no real knowledge of the term's
history. (Susan has a paper forthcoming in an interdisciplinary volume for
which this information would be really useful.) Anyone have an idea?
Thanks, Bruce
