I intend no discourtesy by not replying at length, but
I don't see much prospect of advancing the debate at this point.
Andrew and I disagree sharply on the interpretation of Marx. I
don't think we disagree that much on the criteria for a valid
interpretation (i.e., in the abstract, it's easy enough to agree
that one wants to "make sense of the whole"); but we clearly
disagree on the application or specific implications of the
criteria in the case in hand. On that matter, I don't really
have anything substantive to add to my remarks of a couple of
months ago (particularly [1110], of which Andrew's memories are
rather vague).
