It's still August 6. After sending my proposal, I waited ... and waited
(for what seemed like days, but was only a few hours) ... to see if
anyone would respond.

It was at this crucial moment when the two Pauls of the marxism list -
Cockshott and Zarembka - stepped forward and sent the following two
supportive posts. It is my feeling that had they not written those posts
when they had, this project would probably not have happened. I am very
grateful to them and hope that they feel that OPE-L has justified their
original enthusiasm.

I think that is a great idea Jerry. I would be willing
to work collectively with people on this if a group
could be gotten together. We would have to decide if
we were going to work step by step through the topics
all together, or to sub divide the topics, so that one
person acted as principal contributor in that area
and presented their ideas to criticism/modification
by others.

I am not ready to jump in with specific proposals, but what Jerry says
here is completely correct and something I deeply feel--we must get on
with advancing Marxist theory. Back in my intellectual childhood when I
was a neoclassical neoclassical, we certainly were not constantly
debating Smith, Ricardo, Mill, Marshall or even Keynes (altho he has been
more subject to debate) the way Marxists often do for Marx. There is
absolutely no reason for Marxists to be on the defensive in their theory--its
far ahead of bourgeois theory even when we make mistakes.

Jerry, thanks for driving the point home. Maybe start, Jerry, by posting
Marx's outline for future work.

Once I received the support of the Pauls I really believed that this
project *could* happen. How we went from 3 people to a list will be
discussed in the next post in this series. Read on ...
