I asked Paul Burkett, a former OPE-L listmember (indeed a founding
member), for some details on his new book called _Marx and Nature: A Red
and Green Perspective_. He answered as follows (I told him in advance

Hi Jerry:
The book that came out this past February is called MARX AND NATURE:
A RED AND GREEN PERSPECTIVE (St. Martins Press, New York; and
Macmillan, London). It is only available in hardback at this point,
and it costs $45 from St. Martin's (unfortunately I think a bit more
from Macmillan -- it is on their website). It is 312 pages in
length. It may appear in paperback (and at a much lower price) later
on depending on how many people buy the hardback.
The price, table of contents, and brief description of the book are
listed on www.amazon.com, but basically what the book tries to do is
reconstruct Marx's approach to nature, society, and environmental
crisis -- his approach to nature under capitalism and communism. It
responds to the most common ecological criticisms of Marx in a
textually and logically informed way, while establishing the
contemporary relevance of Marx's approach to nature.
Michael Perelman's joint review of my book and Jim O'Connor's NATURAL
CAUSES will appear in the December 1999 issue of CAPITALISM, NATURE,
SOCIALISM.
