Bejarieae |
The ‘tarflower’ (B.
racemosa) is native to the southeastern U.S. in Florida and southern
Georgia. The
common name refers to the numerous sticky glandular hairs that cover
the plant, which was used by settlers as flypaper. Many other species
of Bejaria
exist, but all of these are found at high elevations in the Andes of
South America. Many of these species have pink or red flowers and
are hummingbird
pollinated. |
