Video Output problem with IBM Thinkpad R40
I observed a severe problem in the video output of the IBM Thinkpad R40 when attached to a Samsung 172N LCD monitor, an IBM L170 monitor, or an IBM 17" CRT. Black-on-gray characters have a bright white line following the outline of the character and just to the right of the character. See the following photograph of the screen:
This problem manifests itself with many different monitor/R40 combinations. All of our newer monitors exhibit this problem with R40's. These same monitors have outstanding displays with either the IBM A21m or IBM T40P with no sign of this ghosting.
As of the current update of this web page, this issue has been at IBM Level 3 support for 86 days. Efforts at resolution have principally focussed on updating video drivers. To date, no resolution has been found.
