WebAssign Tutorial.

This year, the WFU Physics Department is trying a new method for Physics homework assignments -- using the on-line web program "WebAssign". This program enables you to get immediate feedback on your numerical or multiple choice answers. Typically, you will get ~20 trials to submit your answers for grading purposes. Usually, a numerical answer is counted as correct if it is within 1% of the "exact" answer. You will need to login to WebAssign with your unique "username" (which is the same as your WFU user name), your "institution" (which is "wfu" entered in lower case) and a password which is initially set to your student id number. In order to get credit for each homework assignment, you must login to the WebAssign server with your own user name. The actual numerical problem may be slightly different for each student. Please notify your instructor if you experience any difficulty or have any questions about your homework or about WebAssign. You may earn extra credit points if you help us discover errors in the assignment or in the homework problems.

In order to develop and maintain good problem solving skills, all students should keep a notebook or section of a notebook for the algebraic and graphical work associated with each assignment. This notebook will be especially helpful during tutorial sessions, consultations with your instructor, and preparing for exams, and will be checked from time to time by your instructor. The numerical work for your homework must be submitted through WebAssign. You may wish to print your completed assignments from the WebAssign session to keep for your records.

Within 10 days of the start of class, the WebAssign people will want you to register with them. You will receive a special number for this purpose from your instructor. The $5 fee for this registration is being paid by WFU.

There is a time frame for each problem set. In general, you may not have access to the WebAssign version of the homework set until the assignment date. (If this is a problem for you, please send email.) After the problem is "due", you will be able to view the assignment and your answers, but you will not be able to submit new answers for grading purposes.
