First Meeting: Tuesday, September 5.

The primary goal of this class is to help you to improve your problem-solving skills and to improve your ability to read and write proofs. I also hope to introduce you to some beautiful ideas in mathematics. The class is open to all students who enjoy mathematics and who are willing to participate in the discussions. There are no other prerequisites. This seminar can be particularly valuable to students who are just beginning a major in mathematics, or who are simply considering a major in mathematics, and who want to practice the skills that will be so important in the upper division courses. The atmosphere of this seminar is intended to be friendly, collaborative, and lively.

This semester we will find many interesting problems to discuss in Problem-Solving Through Problems, by Loren Larson.

The grading is pass/fail and is based upon participation.
