Students are encouraged to come to office hours for help, practicing problem solving or any reason at all. Dr. Kim-Shapiro is available by email pretty much 17/7. Please do not message him through canvas or webassign etc - use email.

Learning Outcomes

Grading:
3 hour exams* ..........................................................45%

Class Participation....................................Up to 2% extra credit
Emphasis in grading will be placed on how each problem is solved. All work showing how the solution was obtained must be shown. An answer with the correct answer but poor method is inferior to one with the wrong answer but good method.
*The lowest score of the three in-class exams will count 5% and the other two will count for 20% each.
The lowest score on a problem set will be dropped. Problem sets will generally be assigned on a weekly basis and the students will have one week to complete them. Late assignments may be accepted with a 10% grade reduction. Students may help each other on problem sets but each student must write their own solution to each problem. Solving the homework problems is excellent practice for the exams.
Unexcused late HW will be penalized 10%. Email Dr. Kim-Shapiro before the due date and lateness can be excused
The lowest 3 warmup grades will be dropped
Students must complete the laboratory part of this course to receive credit. You must pass the lab portion of the class to pass the class. The labs will begin on January 23, 2023.

Exams (Potentially 6 PM if possible): February 6, March 27, April 17; Final Exam: April 30, (2 PM)
Note: Dates for "in-class" exams are approximate and will be decided based on class input with the goal of holding evening exams.
Review Sessions will be held before each exam.
In addition to attending office hours, you are encouraged to attened the Physics Center for help.
Wake Forest’s Honor code will be strictly enforced. Students may work together on homework, but they must submit their own answers based on their own solutions. Any use of Chegg or similar services will be investigated and pursued.
AI policy. You may not use ChatGPT or other AI to solve homework problems. Homework is good practice for exams and thus using ChatGPT is a bad idea as you will not be able to use it in exams. You may use ChatGPT or other AI to solve unassigned problems from the text or elsewhere, but know that sometimes ChatGPT gets the wrong answers.
