The equtions you will be given are available here. You need not copy them.
Grades will be available through this.
Grading:
3 hour exams* ..........................................................45%
Final Exam................................................................30 %
Problem Sets............................................................10%
Laboratory work.......................................................10%
Warm-UP Exercises ...................................................5%
Class Participation....................................Up to 2% extra credit
Emphasis in grading will be placed on how each problem is solved. All work showing how the solution was obtained must be shown. An answer with the correct answer but poor method is inferior to one with the wrong answer but good method.
*The lowest score of the three in-class exams will count 5% and the other two will count for 20% each.
The lowest score on a problem set will be dropped. Problem sets will generally be assigned on a weekly basis and the students will have one week to complete them. Students may help each other on problem sets but each student must write their own solution to each problem.
Students must complete the laboratory part of this course to receive credit. The labs will begin August 30. Laboratory manuals may be purchased at the first lab for 10.00 dollars. Bring your thinkpad to the first lab.
Warm-up exercises are to be completed and handed in by 8:00 AM on the day of each class. They will be available by 2 PM each class day. You must have done the reading to perform the Warm-up exercise. You are not allowed to get help on the Warm-up exercises. The warm-ups will be graded. Each completed warmup is worth 2 points and each correct multiple choice question is worth 1 point. Submission of a warm-up exercise without having done the reading (as evidenced by nonsensical answers) is cheating and hence an honor code violation.
Hour Exams (6 PM or arranged): Sept. 27, Nov. 1, Dec. 1; Final Exam: Dec. 10 (2 PM)
