Current "weekly" Warm-Up Exercise.

Current "daily" Warm-Up Exercise.

Homework Assignments.

Grading:

3 hour exams* ..........................................................60%

Final Exam................................................................25 %

Problem Sets............................................................10%

Warm-UP Exercises ...................................................5%

Class Participation....................................Up to 2% extra credit

For graduate students, problem sets will be worth 5% and a research paper due the last day of class will be worth another 5%.

Emphasis in grading will be placed on how each problem is solved. All work showing how the solution was obtained must be shown. An answer with the correct answer but poor method is inferior to one with the wrong answer but good method.

*The lowest score of the three in-class exams will count 10% and the other two will count for 25% each.

The lowest score on a problem set will be dropped. Problem sets will generally be assigned on a weekly basis and the students will have one week to complete them. Students may help each other on problem sets but each student must write their own solution to each problem.

There are two types of warm-ups called daily and weekly. The daily ones are generally due each class period. They will be available by 5 PM each class day. These will often be problems that you are to attempt and that will be gone over in class. They will be graded as 0 (not attempted), 1 (attempted, but not a lot of effort shown), and 2 (a lot of effort shown). The weekly warmups exercises are web-based and are generally to be completed and handed in by 9:00 AM on the day noted on-line. You must have done the reading to perform the weekly Warm-up exercise. You are not allowed to get help on the Warm-up exercises. The weekly warm-ups will be graded by the computer. Each completed weekly warmup is worth 2 points and each correct multiple choice question is worth 1 point. You are encouraged to use the weekly warmups as an additional line of communication.
