In 1993, Guy Matthew Arcuri, Instructor of Spanish at Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, NC sent a petition to . His petition was supported enthusiastically by his department chair, Byron R. Wells, and by his dean, Thomas E. Mullen.

The sixteen students proposed for charter membership met fully the requirements. Mr. Arcuri, a member of Sigma Delta Pi, has proposed for honorary membership one other member of the faculty at Wake Forest, as well as a high school teacher in the community who has worked closely with the Spanish Club at Wake Forest.

Wake Forest University was established in 1834 by the Baptist Church. It is now an independent coeducational university, affiliated with the Baptist Church, that enrolls approximately 3,500 undergraduate and 1,700 graduate students. The library contains approximately 1,000,000 volumes, almost 600,000 titles on microform, and subscribes to almost 12,000 periodicals. The full-time faculty number 731, 84% of whom have doctoral degrees. The institution is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and by other agencies, including the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. Honor societies on campus include Phi Beta Kappa and several others. The Department of Romance Languages offers the B.A. degree with a major and a minor program in Spanish. Beyond first and second year levels the department teaches 63 semester hours of courses in Spanish.

Wake Forest University and its Department of Romance Languages met Sigma Delta Pi requirements for a charter and its petition was aproved. The chapter number was 465 and the name of the chapter became Tau Lambda.
