In
October, 2003, I submitted an Archie Fund
application to seek funding for creation
of 3D stereo anaglyphic animation and an interactive 3D
virtual marionette for a dance performance. The project
was funded in December 2003.
The dance performance, called
Fibonacci + Phi,1
was a production of Alban
Elved Dance Company2 in collaboration
with me and other Wake Forest faculty, students
and staff members. It was performed on December 4-7, 2003
in MainStage at Wake Forest Scale Fine Art Center. It received
very good reviews from the Winston-Salem Journal.
I continued to collaborate
with the dance company for another new production, called The Bridge.3
Having learned from the experience of the successful stereo
animation in the first performance, I wanted
to push the envelop of the 3D stereo animation incorporation
in this second production by experimenting with a more
advanced and elaborated technique that allows full color
viewing. This technique is basically the same 3D stereoscopic
projection technique used in theme parks and IMAX 3D. The
animation was also created much longer for this second
production. The dance was performed on December 2-5, 2004
in MainStage at Wake Forest Scale Fine Art Center. It again
received an exceptional review from the Winston-Salem Journal.
The review described the 3D stereo animation as "stunning" and "far
more striking than those in last year's collaboration."
