Intended as a general union of the working class without trade divisions that would revolutionize the capitalist system.
Founded 27 June 1905 with delegates from labor organizations dissatisfied with AFL
I.W.W. and S.P. parted company over philosophy and tactics. Socialists attempted conventional political action; Wobblies sought revolution. Debs came to side with Socialists. He was “unalterably opposed to sabotage and to ‘direct action’ … these and similar measures are reactionary, not revolutionary.
