Candelas Gala is Charles E. Taylor Professor of Romance Languages at Wake Forest University. She has published on Peninsular poetry of the 20th century, with special focus on Federico García Lorca, and on women poets. She has also published on the artistic connections between Lorca, Dalí, and Buñuel; on the Don Juan motif in Tirso de Molina, Molière and Mozart/Da Ponte, and on Italian women writers.
She is the coordinator of the Wake Forest semester and/or year abroad program at the University of Salamanca, Spain; of the Wake Forest interdisciplinary program in Spanish Studies; of the Wake Forest exchange scholarship with the University of Burgos, Spain, and she is Chair of the Wake Forest Committee on Languages Across the Curriculum (LAC).
